Box lacrosse is a different style of lacrosse that requires a new development of useful skills that will benefit your athlete when they return to field lacrosse. We bring in a unique and fantastic coaching staff of players who all currently play box lacrosse at the Professional level (NLL), Senior level (MSL), Junior level (OJLL), International level (IBLC, EBLC), and Club level (HVBLL) to assist in the development of your player.
We use state of the art and constantly updated drills, situational scenarios, skill development, and gameplay to help your athlete improve their game and lacrosse IQ. All of these currently taught at the highest level and at the disposal of our coaching staff. Many programs rely on out of date teaching and repetitive demonstrations. We pride ourselves on the ability to constantly update our teaching and coaching styles with the current game.
We do not associate with any field club programs. We have players from 12+ club programs and 5 different states representing our program.
We attempt to hold 1 practice locally every week for each team. Being that we practice outside in the fall and winter, we tend to update our schedule weekly to account for weather and field availability.
Our practice locations will differ week to week. This allows families opportunities for easier commutes every now and again. Practices will be held in Shrub Oak, Haverstraw, Orangeburg, and Congers (All in NY).
Practice days also differ week to week. This allows players with outside conflicts to attend practices more often than if they were on a set day for the season. We hold practices on weeknights, weekend mornings, weekend afternoons, and weekend evenings. You will be notified via TEAMSNAP and EMAIL at least 7-10 days in advance of your players practice.
*For older groups (High School Players), we will attempt to cluster practices (2-3 practices in a weekend) to allow players traveling to maximize their practices while minimizing their time away from school or home.*
Last season, our teams were able to practice into January, with little to no issues caused by mother nature. There is no need to force families and players to practice in hazardous or unbearable conditions. If this is the case, we look to postpone our practices or move them to an indoor venue.
We will attempt to hold training camps again this season which will consist of 2-3 training sessions in one location. The rink at Knickerbacker in Troy, NY has been closed since our last outing, so we will have to work along side Albany Power and try to coordinate space at HVCC.
As stated above, for older groups (High School Players), we will attempt to cluster practices over a few weekends to allow players traveling to maximize their practices while minimizing their time away from school or home. This may also be available to younger teams as we are battling conflicts from football and fall travel lacrosse.
We understand some families have prior engagements and conflicts with their tryout date. We ask that you still register your athlete. We will be adding additional tryout dates to try and accommodate everyone. If you are still unable to attend, we do allow athletes to attend 2 practices early in the season with their selected age group(if spots are available), where they can be evaluated and determine their placement in the program.
At 845 Box Lacrosse Club, we don't try to set and meet a number of required practices. Our job is to maximize your players experience and enjoyment of the sport of box lacrosse while creating a competitive and fun environment for our players. We set a minimum number of practices at 8 and hope to push as far as we can into the elements while still practicing on the only rinks we have available which are outdoors. We don't see any benefit from practicing on indoor turf as it does not replicate gamelike situations. Boards are required for the full box experience.
You can expect your schedule to look something like this:
Start: Early October
Finish: Early February
Tournaments: 3-4 (2 for Novice)
Possible Training Camps: 2-3 Sessions and Potential Games
Practices: 8-10
2023/2024 season was $1400 with 4 tournaments, 1 training camp (2 practices and a scrimmage) and 6 additional practices. We will try and stay close to this number, but inflation has hit our sport pretty hard (tournament costs and rink rentals) which I'm sure you've seen with other sports. Our goal is to provide your player with the best opportunity to grow and compete in the game of box lacrosse without breaking the bank for families.
We provide all of our goalies with the proper and safest gear available to play box lacrosse. Goalies are just required to provide their own helmet, sticks, and cup.
Goalies also receive a major discount at registration. Please inform us as soon as possible if interested in playing goalie as we order our gear direct from Canada. Shipping can take up to 6-8 weeks.
